What do we have here? A typical New Orleans weak strike Unc? Or a lightly circulated coin? Thanks in advance for opinions and I will chime in later with my thoughts.... FWIW, there are no deep gouges or hits on this thing. It's mostly frost breaks/rub with a few scattered light hits
Soft strike. I don't really like the beauty mark on her neck but I give her a 64 Edit: After another look I'm gonna settle on 63
I am thinking AU58. Seeing the rub above the ear and on the top left eagle wing. Very nice coin. On my list for Orleans Morgan's!
AU63. It appears to have all its luster from the pictures which would be a soft strike for the flat hair, but with that said a 58 holder wouldn't shock me either
MS64 - I think Liberty's hair and ear are due to a weak strike. Take a look at the detail on the cotton bolls. Chris
Definatly unc. 64 most likely. Cheek is very clean but not perfect, the carbon spots and big scrape break directly in the focal field area are big factors that negate the relatively clean cheek in this instance. Could I see it in a 65 slab, yes; do I think it will go past 64+ at best, no
63. Pretty weak strike, big patch of soft scuffs in the field. I don't think it makes 64 with both of these issues.
Soft strike unc. To much luster and no obvious signs of circulation. I'm torn between 63/4 without seeing in hand. Your mention of frost breaks rather then contact dings gave me the nod to 64.
It's not graded, but I'm at 63/64 on it myself, hence why I asked the opines of the community. Paid $22 so I can either send it in and hope 4 a ms 64 or sell it raw and profit either way....I LOVE MELTDOWN SHOPS!!
I agree with Wild Bill--soft strike New Orleans mint, fairly clean MS coin. There is no wear by the ear--it just isn't the strongest strike in the world. I am torn between 63 and 64 also. It has nice eye appeal.
so a light strike will cause the hair lines to not be defined as they would on other Morgans where the strands of the hair are more pronounced ?
