Happy Valentine's Day, CT! I did a brief search, and found some information, but I thought I'd pose the question here too.

Has anyone had a discovery piece attributed and holdered by a TPG?

I have a heretofore unlisted die pairing of a Civil War token. I've talked with the right people, and it has been assigned a Fuld number, assuming it is what it appears to be. Where do I go from here?

I'd like to get the token attributed for what it is, and get it recognized as the first of the type. Thanks in advance!

I've seen a few "discovery coin" slabs, but I have no idea of the criteria that is demanded to get the designation. Perhaps you should call your TPG of choice and see what they would want in order to recognize your coin as such. Can we see it?

I have an anacs sub on the way back that had some ike talonheads plus a couple of unlisted ddo's I checked "research" on. The submission was moved to "consult" for a week last week and finally moved to "shipping" Friday. I also wrote on the form to label any as discovery piece if applicable. This sub has me curious as to what comes back more than any other sub in recent memory :)

I was going to make some phone calls on Tuesday. I have some emails out too. The pictures I have right now aren't the best. I'll take better ones when the coin gets here.

Don't post photos until you get credit for the discovery. You never know who is watching.

I have already contacted the people who are responsible for authenticating and documenting such things. I appreciate the concern though!

"Authenticating and documenting" is totally different from having one of the grading services note on the insert "Discovery Piece".

Suppose that you post photos and someone who collects CWT's has one. They could send it overnight to have it graded and the TPG could simply turn around and request the info from the authenticator.

The Penny Lady has several Discovery Piece IHC varieties which now have Snow numbers.

Heard back from NGC. It will find a home in one of their holders. More info and pics to come.

I know Brian Rains has several "Discovery Pieces" from TPGS's.

    Isn't he a VAMmer?

He is a "Master Cherrypicker." I believe he did some consulting or worked for ICG a while back (perhaps ANACS also). Anyway, I had a chance on two occasions to see his "little red box" at coin shows and each variety coin he pulled out was more "special" and many unknown to me. I consider him a lesser known Bill Fivaz.

I was just curious because there is a Brian Raines on VAMWorld.

Yes, that's him, he's responsible for a bunch of Vam finds. He is local here in Ohio, (that's where all the good Morgan guys are from):cigar:
I see him from time to time at the local shows and have purchased some very nice Morgan's from him...:joyful:

Not just Morgan guys are from Ohio.

There's at least a Fugio/Copper guy here, too.
