Saw this thread over on the PCGS site and thought it was a good idea. Also, before someone says it, someone over there already said you can't pay too much for a coin since what you are willing to pay for a coin is how much it is worth at that time. So, let's see the coins you didn't mind paying more than the average market price for. Here are a few of mine: NGC MS 64*FBL PCGS MS 65 NGC MS 65 NGC MS 65
There have been a few coins for which I paid too much, but it was so long ago that I've since sold them for a profit. On the other hand, there have been other coins for which I paid a fair price and sold them at a loss. Chris
This auction closed a week after my mother passed away. She had a greyhound she adopted from a racetrack, and the portrait here resembles her. It was too eerie of a coincidence so I bid like $800 over the estimate. I didn't care what it cost me, I was going to own this coin.
$80 total? That seems like a pretty fair price to me. Unless that's graded MS-60, which it doesn't appear to be.
Wow that is quite the coincidence. I'm not an ancient guy, but that looks like a pretty nice example of the coin.
View attachment 478122 I'd say it was a 63..... But real common date. I don't regret it now, but it was Christmas time, and was supposed to be a present, but my cousin got a Confederate 10 dollar bill instead. So it's more like I paid in guilt.
How did you know it was a slab? Grade MS63 Mintage 19,963,000 Holder Type Standard Population 39,705 PCGS Price GuideSM Value: $63
@bsowa1029 those make me want to get back to work on my Franklins...Almost! Here's two from me... Antiochus VII Euergetes, Seleucid Kingdom, BC 138-129 AR, tetradrachm, 16.59g, 30mm; 12h; Antioch Obv.: Diademed head of Antiochus VII right Rev.: BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANTIOXOY EVEPΓETOY; Athena Nikephoros standing left; to outer left, monogram above A; all within wreath. This one made the list because it's the most I ever paid for a single coin and loved it at first sight. I did not overpay, and did not pay above what others are going for...probably a little less. This one I was ready to spend a lot and did... This was awarded to female German Shepherd Anika (I think) in 1956 at the New Orleans German Shepard Dog Club show. She won Best of Show.
I grew up in Lakes of the Four Seasons then moved to Crown Point in 96 or so. Lived right by the Burger King, across the street from the Jewel grocery store.
Yes I did! I can't remember if anyone I knew went there, it's been too long. There's another member here from the area I believe...I hope you stick around!
In most cases, if a buyer paid too much for a coin ON PURPOSE, I would likely pay too much for that coin myself . . . that is demonstrative of the coin's real value, that the amount paid was probably more right than wrong, and that the pricing for ordinary coins of that grade is not directly applicable in that instance.
