"Sick" in more ways than one I presume.... but hey, you should feel grateful for the privilege of investing your time, energies, money, knowledge, and health in order to simply hand others their desired wholesale pricing, right? ;)

A speedy recovery to you and the wife, sir.

Thank you, very kind of you. An especial irony at the show was the several people who spouted the Coin Shows Are Dead Theory while enjoying the privilege of examining coins in-hand while quibbling about prices and then telling me why they only buy off of eBay.

They need to be infected a bit more by attending 'live' shows. What the devil could be better than viewing coins in hand?

[edit to add] Feel better George (Giorgio). My wife's Italian........

Thank you, we are staying home and taking Airborne/antibiotics etc. Should be OK. I appreciate the good wishes. And I understand it is tough out there, everybody is watching their budget. Don't mean to sound bitter but we showed a net loss at the show after expenses. I am not Italian but can sing more opera arias from memory than anyone else you know. When I don't have a sore throat!

Why hold coin shows in winter ? The one thing that has not been mentioned yet is because it is traditional. Coin shows have been held in the winter for longer than I've been alive. Winter is the traditional "season" for coin collectors.

The reason that's so has been given, it's because in the summer people in general have other things to do, that they cannot do in winter.

That said there are still coin shows in the summer, just not near as many of them, and not as big as the ones in the colder months.

A few days ago I got back from the World Money Fair in Berlin, apparently the world's biggest coin show. Early February, it was darn cold (well, it has been worse in previous years) but apparently the early date is convenient for the mints that present their new and planned issues. And the dealers come too, and so do the buyers. After all, once you're inside, it is nice and warm. :D

Guess that, if the weather conditions make it hard to impossible to travel to a show, fewer visitors may come. But by and large that should not a big issue. And yes, in summer there is so much more to do ...

Good coins shows anytime are fine with me!!! Have good dealers, nice people, good stories, laughs and such, and I am fine.

Its funny this topic came up!

Just had a conversation with one of the coin shop owners here in Milwaukee, Wi. He told me everyone used to put their albums up in the summer and pull them back out in the winter. He was saying that he didnt want to be cooped up in the summer while the weather was nice!

If you are ever in Milwaukee, check out Bobs Ok coin shop. Great guy!
