I am helping a family friend sell some coins and they have a bunch of rolls of nickels from the 1940s. I don't think any of them are rare dates. There are a few war nickel rolls and I know those are worth more, but it there any premium for the others? I have 40, 46 and 47 D. A lot of the coins here I'm just going to deposit in the bank (a lot of pennies from the 1960s). I'm thinking of dumping these in there too. I always save 1940s nickels if I find one in pocket change but this is kind of a lot at once.
I've always had a hard time deciding what to with 1940's nickels. If they are average circulated coins, they probably do not command a premium at all. That said, I have many rolls of them. Guess I can't quite bring myself to cash them in. Interestingly, if I find one in change, I no longer save them (anymore).
I just don't know if after shipping and fees if I would make any money on them. That's kind of a heavy thing to ship.
