Hello, coin community. My name is Adam, and for too long, I have held back a very important part of myself, a part I can no longer hide. I collect modern US commemorative silver dollars . . . . in MS-70. I know, I know, your repulsion is palpable, and even now, sitting in front of my keyboard, i feel awash in your disgust. At long last, however, I've made my peace with it. It's okay to like moderns. It's okay to buy MS-70 coins. And it's okay to prefer slabbing, even if it's mostly because you like that they're easier to store and the metadata is already right there. There are other, like me, who are among you, right now, afraid to speak up about their love of MS-70 moderns, or moderns of other high grades. Collect what you love, and love what you collect.
While I agree, there also tends to be a lot of vitriol directed at modern coins and TPGs, with a special level of ire for MS-70. I was just having a little fun with it.
I will forever link this song to the OP, He is now a hero in the eyes of many. The spokesperson for ms70 bullion, the poster boy for a despised area of collecting.A legend in the making, they will build a statue of him @ modern coin mart, people from around the globe will idolize him. His legacy will live forever......
That is one of the wonders of numismatics, there are so many different niches to specialize in. I am more into old copper but like to see other peoples interests. I even stray into Eisenhower Dollars on occasion!
As long as you are comfortable paying the premiums for MS70's, more power to you. I have a few here-and-there but can't envision making a huge portion of my $$$ go into them nor can I putting 100% into them. What coins do you mostly have ? Regular silver eagles ? Special reverse proofs and enhanced finishes ?
there are some lovely modern commems out there - and some very brutal ones. But you gotta collect what you like
As long as it makes you happy, that's all your mother and I could ever have hoped for. We're proud of you son, but we do have to ask - is cuddling up to a box of coins just as good as a big dog?
I am no longer ashamed to say I Like Ike! I just purchased a 1971-S PR69DCAM and it is shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny and gorgeous. Don't hate me!
