Nice hippocamp, Steve-O (and JA)! The type is perpetually on the list... the list which contains roughly 10,000x more coins than I can afford :D

I forget: who recently got the crab hat? Mine is such a junker with that thickish patina but nice ones are coins for the want list.

Since this thread already resembles a fractal*, here's another tangent-- a very cool hippocamp quadriga:

    PHOENICIA, Berytos
    1st century BCE

    Æ19.5, 5.9 gm
Obv: Turreted head of Tyche right
Rev: Poseidon standing left in quadriga drawn by four hippocamps
    Ref: SNG Copenhagen 83

    And a Sicilian hippocamp:
    Sicily, Syracuse. Second Democracy
    c. 425 BCE
    Æ tetras, 13 mm, 1.9 gm
Obv: Female head right; XXX before
    Rev: Hippocamp right, octopus below
Ref: CNS 30; SNG ANS 1382

And a another Phoenician hippocamp (which needs to be reshot, it isn't that brown):
    PHOENICIA, Byblos. Uzzibaal. 350-335 BC
    AR dishekel, 13.3 gm

Obv: Three hoplites with shields in war galley left, roaring lion's head on prow, waves below galley; hippocamp left below; Z O (N O?) in field
Rev: Phoenician inscription; lion attacking bull left
    Ref: SNG Copenhagen 132, BMC 26.95, 4.

    *A related joke:

Nicely played => you've turned it into a hippocamp pile-on thread, with a backdoor Berytos and/or Byblos chaser

... sorry, somehow I've lost touch with the font-format

Okay, my font is back-on-track ... sorry about that

    :bear:

Here is a Byblos addition ... ummm, is JA cool with this thread-assault?! (sometimes he gets all weird, know what I mean?)

    ... *awkward* ...

    Oh well, I'm diving-in ...

Ummm, is somebody else gonna chase a coin-tangent? (Lion, Bull ... ???)

=> it's kinda like playing hot-potato ... who is gonna be yelled at first?

Realizing how opposed Steve usually is to taking a thread over chasing unrelated rabbits, I guess this must be a legitimate pile on following is post. Mine is like Steve's but a different date and ruler (Ainel?). Does anyone know a good online reference on these?

Hey, someone has a future as a hat model! Specifically, crab hats :D. On a separate note, that crab looks like it's been visiting your wine rack...

Oh, I should post a coin... here's my old Republican hippocamp biga:
