I was thinking about adding one of these to my gold collection and wanted to hear some feedback about why I should or shouldn't. And if I were to buy one should I get the first year 2006 or this years. And if I should get the proof or BU? Thanks

They contain an ounce of gold, so they are a pretty sound buy. assuming you don't have anything else you would rather have for the $700-$800 you'd spend on it. If I had to guess, the 2007 mintage is going to be less than the 2006 mintage, making it slightly rarer - though I may certainly be wrong on that.

It's just a modern ounce of gold. There is no should/shouldn't about it. If you like the design buy it and if you grow tired of it...sell it. It's not like you are buying a Saint, Indian or Lib. If it were, that would require some debate. The buffalo is easy to get and easy to sell for a little over spot. You don't have to over think it.

Well, I can't tell you why you shouldn't, but if you're into gold, then the proof is a mighty fine looking coin. If you're not into the MS70 thing, then look to ebay for 2006 NGC PF69 and you can find 'em for under $750, maybe even under $725 if you're lucky.

It's an overpriced ounce of gold.

The main thing here is that it is 24K.

I could buy a lot of mint, proof and silver sets for the cost of a Gold Buffalo. I need to buy sets from this current year to at least 1964. I would like to have all those coins in my dansco's. That is what my decision is I suppose.

Wait to see what happens later this year, as fractional Gold Buffalos may be offered, then you can have a 1/10th oz or whatever, plus some mint and proof sets.
