I am looking for a nice common date Saint Gaudens grading 63 or 64. I have been doing a lot of window shopping and watching completed auctions to try and get a feel. Seems like $1350 an up is the price range. Most good ones are over $1450 I wanted your opinion and thoughts on a fair price
Maybe it' s just the picture but the color looks little washed out, like from old dipping. There are marks in the field, I would wait for another one, especially you can find a rarer year in this price range.
It is a little hard to see from just this angle a little bleached out may just be the photo. Do you have any different photos? Is this from a dealer or individual. Do you have the weight? All these would be helpful as it looks from this photo, pricing close grade would hard to gauge. Marks in the fields are common for gold. I would have hard time telling from these photos if it has been dipped or not. Need more detail in photo.
I'd want to see some better and larger photos before I bought. Based on what I see here, I don't like the obverse much and am wondering if it's cleaned.
The greysheet lists St.G type at 63-$1180/64-$1365. Coin World says 63-$1650/64-$1700. Check out Heritage auction results.
Is the greysheet price what buyers should expect to buy at or what dealers are buying at? If its the dealer buy price then what is an expected premium over this? What is the Coin World price telling me?
Greysheet is dealer approximate buy pricing. Coin World is Retail. Are you starting a collection of this type or are you wanting to purchase this more of an investment/bullion?
Looks washed out. Is it the photos? Common date St Gaudens should be able to be bought for close to greysheet as their not hard to come by and their price fluctuates as bullion does too so if it drops dealers don't want to be stuck with a loser
Not a collection. Not an investment. I have always wanted one. This is why I wanted a nice common date. I was thinking of selling some silver and just convert to a gold piece.
I think its the picture. All of the other coins look the same. Does the grade of the coin factor in the luster or is it just the physical condition of the coin?
In addition to strike, surface quality and other attributes, luster definitely factors into the grade an uncirculated coin will be assigned.
In your case you should buy a Graded PCGS, NGC or ANAC $20 St. Gaudens. This would be for your long term piece of mind. Remember common date coins of any type will follow market precious metal trends + premium of grade + seller profit (expect $20-$100). Going Greysheet of a common MS63 $20 St. G is $1250 at this point in time. Gold is one of those items you usually get what you pay for nothing at super wholesale pricing.
You couldn't touch any PCGS MS63-64 $20 gold pieces near GS bid on Ebay. Most are going for $150 - $175 over bid.
Please PM me if you have some PCGS MS63-64 for sale near GS...I just paid $2610 for two PCGS MS61 rattlers.
1911-D NGC MS64 Saint St. Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle --> Ebay 2-5-16 --> NGC MS64 Greysheet $1345 +$100 = $1445 they want an offer .. if they turn it down go to next until you find a seller. There are more dealers than Ebay.. Go to a coin show in your area http://www.ebay.com/itm/1911-D-NGC-MS64-Saint-St-Gaudens-20-Gold-Double-Eagle-/141896383616? check it out .. Ebay or other dealers 1924 $20 St. Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-63 PCGS $1450 I do not have one to offer at this point to offer, there is not a catalog or Walmart to go an buy one. This what you call a Gold Coin Marketing, it is on the rise this week. These are ballpark numbers close in range. If it is too much don't buy it .. if you want it buy it That is one of the advantages of TPG .. Ebay comes at least with a 10-15% adder to the prices I mentioned. That does not make them bad just have to consider all costs..
