FYI - ANACS has a Dollars and Cents special going on and they extended through the end of Feb. Small US cents and US dollars are welcome. As a bonus, they're doing $5 per GSA coin (hard holders) after you submit 10 coins at their special price. When it was announced last month, it put me on a new project and I ended up grading my entire collection of Morgan and Peace dollars myself. (Reviewed some 500 coins!) Out of my entire set, I selected the substantial few that I thought would make the grade. We'll see how I did, they just confirmed receipt of the coins yesterday. And since it was "Dollars *AND* Cents" I put in my 1878 Indian Head Cent as the lone copper good luck charm. Hope it works! I know it's circulated, but I'm interested to learn grade and get it authenticated. And now beings the "holding my breath" stage of the project.
You sure the indian cent counts - when I read the deal it was Lincoln cents. Still not bad deal. And good luck on your submission.
Well, I'll go and read it again tomorrow morning. If they don't, they don't. I've still got my silver dollars in the hunt.
Well I just got the results posted. 80 coins! Can't wait, should arrive by Friday with a bit of luck! The good news - lots of MS grades on my Morgans and Peace, a bunch of AU grades on my better date peace dollars (wasn't happy, but did my best to eyeball before sending for grading). All of them were bought as "circulated" over the years - and paid as such. A few cleaning/details grades, but not many. Overall I'm pleased. 80 coins - 34 came back with MS+ grades, 15 AU58's 14 I knew were worn and rare date, the rest were 53/55. I knew not all would go MS, but I was happy to see that I didn't go into XF territory on any. NO FAKES! My fake-o-meter instincts have always been good, this validates that I've done my homework. My GSA CC Morgans came out 3xMS62, 3xMS63 and 1xMS64 - I'll take them at the price I paid! I sent my best ones to NGC through a local dealer - should see them in a few weeks. My 1889-CC got authenticated - details and low grade - but authentic - I was 99% sure, but you know that feeling with high value fakes! (whew!). I think at $400 I overpaid for the coin. Lesson learned, but I wanted one in the collection. 1889 CC $ SCRATCHED - CLEANED 8 DETAILS Abysmal grades on my 1892's (S's and O's) - but all genuine which helps. 15 and 25's Barely worth the $10 spent on grading, but I knew they were worn coins. Overall - some better some worse than expected. The good news is that I've got a giant collection of authenticated and graded coins for trading through the upcoming year! And to close it out - my 1878 Indian Head came out a 6 / damaged-details grade. So much for good luck - or maybe the sacrificial lamb!
It was like Christmas last night! I got home from a 3 day road trip and my wife hands me a box with 5 packages in it. 2 separate bullion orders, a double eagle I bought on ebay, a Peace Dollar my uncle sent me from Hawaii (common date, but hey I appreciate the thought!) and my big present - my giant winter ANACS submissions! I wrote down all my own grades for the coins. Now I'll spend the next few weeks reviewing the "professional" grades and comparing my own.
