So im not sure if this is a real or fake. Sorry about bad pictures I used a samsung galaxy s2 to take pictures. I dont think you'll be able to see the letter "D" cause I can only see it at an angle under a direct light. Anyways need your expertise. Thank you.

I do believe he's saying it's a real/genuine 16 Merc (which it is), but not necessarily the claimed D.

Is there a method using a camer to capture light imprints without using flash? The flash (on and off) does not capture any light imprints on the coin. or maybe a solution that wont damage it any further that can expose everything on the coin?

You could try the "gravestone" technique and put a thin piece of white paper on the area and rub the paper with a pencil. And no, there is no such chemical for silver coin.

Turn off the flash and hit the coin with some light. If you have a copystand or tripod it would certainly help; the steadier you keep the camera (same goes if still using a phone) the better.

No thats not it. Its where the "D" is suppose to be on the bottom left on the reverse. It's so light that I had to use the sunlight yesterday to catch the shape by tilting the dime at an angle under a magnifying glass.

I guess ill just try to capture it again with the camera once ive tried everyone's technique. if all that fails, ill just call it quits and post another thread and store this.one away for another 25 years- haha. It seems super highly unlikely that its the 1916 D dime from everyone's comments.
