Wheat cent reverse not struck???

    Found this going through pennies from the bank. It's a 1957-d wheat penny but the reverse seems to be missing. Could anyone tell me if this is an error.

    That is because someone ground off the reverse. You can tell because there is no upset rim. The rim is formed by running the planchet through the upsetting mill BEFORE the coin is struck. This is just PMD.
