Basic jist...RMS Republic sunk in 1909 with 150,000 double eagles on board. Dude who owns rights to the wreckage and his son are trying to recover the gold coins. All this with the usual family drama tossed in. Anyway, 150,000 double eagles...interesting.

They really do not expect anyone capable of simple maths to be watching.

It will probably end up being just like the "Curse of Oak Island".........6-8 weeks spent filming the series and 5 years spent televising it. In the end, no treasure!

I'd rather watch Parker Schnabel kick Rick Hoffman's butt. "Let us pray."

Yea I tried to figure that out. The only thing I could think of is that they are all 1909 or earlier, in the episode last night he held up a PCGS slabbed (OGH) example of what is "supposed" to be down there and all I can figure is that the value is loosely based on MS graded coins, but I don't see how that's even possible.

According to Wiki, the ship lies in 270 feet of water. If that is correct any salvage company passing muster should be able to do some sort of recovery.

Yep, that's what thought too, but this guy has failed at this already. Back in the 80s he raised millions of dollars, but came up empty handed.

I can visualize the "First Dug" labels on eBay.

I agree. I first heard about Oak Island treasure when I was in high school (early sixties) and have wondered about it ever since. Then comes this series on History about it. I was thrilled and started to watch it. It's just another reality show making a bunch of nothing look real. What I (now) think is that these treasure hunters know they have an unachievable dream so they just sell the dream.

With an early spring on the horizon the search for treasure should be a success but with more of them flooding the market values will go down .
