I've been out of circulation for a while, and haven't been trying to keep up with eBay, but today I came across this: Lot Of Mixed Coins , Uncirculated, Etc The description says (in its entirety): The pictures clearly show an 1804 dollar and a couple of "1872 Seated" patterns (bringing the total known to 8, yippee!). So, if I had bid on this lot, won it, received it, and notified eBay that it contains counterfeit coins, would eBay have: 1) Ignored me? 2) Told me to send back the whole lot to the seller? 3) Told me to get "official confirmation" that the coins are fake? 4) Given me a refund and told me to keep the coins? In the past, alternative 4 was what happened, although sometimes they wanted me to do number 2 until I escalated. I seem to remember some more recent discussion that 3 was starting to happen. Anybody have recent (within the past couple of months) relevant experience?
Number 4 without proof is highly questionable at best. Easy way to get free coins. I believe they tell you to send it back for a refund.
I quickly ordered a silver ancient without checking with the CT gurus and in hindsight found out that it was a fake with an obverse of one coin and a reverse of another. Checking the previous listings of the seller, I found he had tried to sell it as an unknown/possibly fake coin. E-bay told me to return it, and the charge was not paid.
