Ragged edges...does it have to be grease it was struck through or could it have been a chip of metal debris? Just asking.

It doesn't have to be 100% compacted grease, and that is where I think some people are missing the boat. The grease can mix with particles of dust and other debris and become very hard from continuous strikes.

Take a look at the obverse of my Kennedy which is missing the reverse clad layer. You will notice that grease was mixed with small bits of debris around the perimeter.

Yea, but so what? That coin does not even come close to resembling the OP's coin.

It almost looks a little bit like this one, depression or recessed into the coin. But the edges are not as jagged.

That is getting in the vicinity, but there are no edges as you noted. That one I could easily believe would be dropped grease.

You're missing the point! Can't you see how bits and pieces of debris mixed with the grease?

Chris- What's the description of that Kennedy on your slab?

Go ahead and call me a liar because I said that I've seen hundreds similar to the OP's. Just because you haven't seen one doesn't mean you're right. It only means you have no imagination.

I found it in a 2001 Mixed P&D Mint Bag that was released in 2004.
