    The "Y" clash can be seen between the 2nd and 3rd columns from the left side of the Memorial. It is inverted because that is how it should be.

    @eric6794

    The clash is very slightly recessed. That is because the letter is recessed on the obverse die, and when it strikes the reverse die, it becomes slightly raised. So, the clash becomes slightly recessed on the coin. You don't see any other evidence of a clash on the rest of the coin because it was not a real strong clash of the dies.

    If you're not real familiar with clashes, you might find that browsing through the VAM listings of Morgan dollars to be helpful. Die clashes on Morgans were extremely common.

    FWIW, I have more than 200 "Y" clashes that I found in one $50 Mint bag of 1980 Lincoln cents, and they are much similar to the one Sheila posted here. The clash was just strong enough to produce the inverted Y, but not so strong that other devices appear. The difference with my find is that they all came from the same die. I know this because every one of the coins has the same two markers on the reverse die.
