    Is this a form of Progressive Indirect Design Transfer?

    I'm gonna go with die clash as well. Those marks look way too sharp compared to what I see here: http://www.error-ref.com/progressive-indirect-design-transfer/ . My understanding of PIDT is that it's caused by the hammer die indirectly striking the anvil die through the planchet, so it makes sense that the transferred design elements would be indistinct.

    Yeah, that looks like a clash. Clashes are *extremely* common on dimes, even spectacular ones where you can see a large portion of the profile (such as this one).

    Ghosting is going to be a faint image - clashes will be sharp.

    I hadn't ever heard of PIDT before. But hear is a strong clash, on an 83p 83p die clash rev.jpg 83p die clash obv.jpg 83p die clash.jpg
    I had thought I lost this one, i was excited to post it.
