I have to be honest, I don't know which toning is preferred. But I do like both of these coins. The trueview photos tend to mute the colors a little bit, but at least they look nice. 1964 kennedy.jpg 1965 kennedy.jpg

The second is cleaner and the obverse luster looks a tad subdued on both coins.

    1964: MS65
    1965: MS66

I have submitted a bunch of Kennedys in search of a 66. I have never been successful. I think these grades were fair, but I was hoping the 64 would have been bumped for eye appeal. The rim toning is real vibrant under the right light.

Again, the TruView hides blemishes on the coin. Take the '65 for example, the TruView in which we used to GTG, hid the dark spot on JFK's cheek/jaw, the disruption in the left field between the nose and the "L" in Liberty and the mark on nape of the neck.

I agree, I kind of did that on purpose. A lot of pics we see are these "fancy" pictures and those are just as hard to guess the grade as the opposite which is my crappy photos which accentuate every blemish. But it's good to know when you're looking at coins online and all they have are the trueview photos, sometimes they're not gonna look that good in hand.

I dunno. I am currently selling this one, and I think that it is way under graded. I think the grader didn't see the surfaces clearly through the tone. This one has extremely vivid tone on both sides. Often, the toned coins have a wide variation in grade as a result of seeing things differently underneath the toned surfaces:

I bet it has a lot to do with that corrosion (for the lack of a better word) on the forehead area.
