did you look at the scratches on the side but it is an old coin so i can not blame you on that. I think you are right because it is an old coin. But very nice design. How much did it cost ya.
A piece of advice we can all use from time to time. It is sometimes better to read than respond. Learn what people that know the hobby well have to say, and learn from it. When you make statements without really understanding, you are not helping the person asking for help and it calls into question comments you make in the future. Guess the grade threads are different because they are used as a learning tool. Good Luck and Welcome to Coin Talk!
Got this back from NGC. Part of me was hoping for a 63, but that scratch was just too much, so I think the 62+ is lucky. Even with the scratch it is very appealing.
I really like the fields on that coin Sean. To bad that luster graze is so prominent on Ms. Liberty. Will you buy or sell this one? To the MODS, I'm not interested in buying the coin, nor making an offer, I'm just interested in what Sean will do with the coin.
I can't seem to sell any of these, even though I should. It's my only 78 now, so I will keep it. It's also PL, so I might wait a little and sell it later. I have a lot of 82-84s now, wish I could be more disciplined and save up for a big boy coin. If I sold any of those except the ones I want to keep, I'd lose money with Ebay fees. But who knows, eventually I will see a superior coin, buy it, and be forced to sell some.
Don't get grade hung up. I think you did extremely well on this coin--it has tremendous eye appeal, except for the scratch. Look, all the GSA Morgans have some sort of surface damage--it is part of their heritage. They are generally not clean for their grade--it is rare to find a really beautiful one with both eye appeal and totally clean surfaces. You did very well.
