When I originally started collecting toner Washingtons I was planning on only collecting them from 1940 - 1964, as I wasn't interested in the clad coins, and the 1932 - 1939 range was where a lot of the money in the series was located. I collected them in slabs (predominantly MS66, with a sprinkling of 65's and rather more 67's). After awhile I got rather enamored with the series, and given how inexpensive the series was raw, I started putting together raw Washington Danscos (the majority of coins are MS64 - 65). Up until about a year ago I stayed within the 1940 - 1964 range. After seeing a few attractive circulated examples, I decided to include the 1932 - 1939 range of Washies in one of the Danscos. Some will be UNC, but most will be circulated. Here are the 1932 P & S Washingtons. The images are by Bob Campbell, and I think he did an excellent job.
Niiiiiice. I have a decent set of Washingtons going now. Once I finish upgrading a few lower quality pieces in my date / mint mark set of mercury dimes, I'm going to try to complete the Washington set.
I picked up a 32-d out of junk silver. It's fair at best, but now have the itch to spend the money for a better example of the D and get a 32-s. Was going to let them slide and finish the rest of the set too, but its killing me to see one empty hole in the dansco!
Yeah, I've been advised that it's best to buy the keys first when you're building a complete set, instead of waiting for the end.
nice, I did that in 1999, when they announced the States series. I figured it would explode. I put together the set, raw, with all thru al clad & silver proofs to the end. The exceptions to uncs were the 1932 D & S -- AU and the 1936 D, AU
