So im going through some dimes and i find this.....experts help me understand.....the lettering in middle looks like Am...so figured from mint and reverse hitting an obverse but im a beginner
Someone put one dime on top of another, and thwacked it smartly with a hammer. The impression from the top coin is smashed into the bottom coin, giving the appearance you see here. It is post mint damage.
Yes to PMD.. if the Letters and Images are Incused and Reversed then it was impressed with another coin.
Stack two coins on top of each other and hit them with a hammer and you will get that. Some people had too much time on their hands and decided to make that. That could never happen at the mint, unless some guy at the mint brought a hammer and smacked to coins together (Still is Considered PMD in that case too) . Also, if that was a mint error the collar would restrict the other coin from being so far off center.
Huh? I guess i didnt see that coming. People really do that? Again i am new so i figured it was quality control at the mint. I didnt even think of people doing it. Lol...well you bubble bursters are appreciated. Maybe someday day i will find something cool.... .me 0 -experts 2.....thanks guys for helping
I would never do that...shame that people can be like that....oh well....someday soon you guys will confirm one of my finds and all in the universe will be good....
How many times have we seen threads here on Cointalk where the poster asks "how much is this coin worth that I just bought." Well, you see, you probably should have asked that question *before* you bought it... But, to the OP, I hope you eventually find that killer rare error. Maybe a dime struck on a nail?
I never once asked what my coin is worth?..im the OP and i am looking for cool cons via rolls or pocket change.....thank you for all your help posting ...by not reading my post and by being a smartallic i find your post a waste of my time....do you have anything to contribute besides zero gain? I may be a beginner to this website but i can recognize a idiot from a mile away.....
I'm sorry if I offended you. I wasn't talking about you - I was answering/expounding on what Dave had said. I wasn't directing this to you specifically, in this post, just mentioning something I've seen on CT many times before. I thought we had already answered your question, and the discussion was moving on. Sorry if you were offended. The only line of my last post directed to you was "I hope you find a killer error." And, I still do. Even if you think I'm an idiot.
Sorry...i get notifications qhen people post so i read your post and 5hought wtf.....i didnt buy it i sidnt care what it was worth blah blah blah.....isnt that called thread derailing? Idk im just going from wxperiwnce in other forums of other intwrest of mine......sorry you are not an idiot
To the OP, I think the coin is cool even if it is PMD. I'm not an error collector. Also, once you hang around here a little while, you'll get a feel for people's personalities. @physics-fan3.14 fan is a respected numismatist and recent author of a book on grading. Good luck in your hunt! Please don't buy "unsearched" rolls on eBay as they most certainly have been searched and the ends "salted" to catch the unwary.
Thanks for advice.....im a homework guy and dont buy coins not error coins anyway im a hunter and metal detector with my son so we like finding them.....this was in a roll of dimes i had and i thought it looked like it had another one punched i to it from the reverse but understand now that cant happen....i will continue to post finds on here to get opinions cause some of the doubled ones are hard to tell for me ...i get the strike diff but have been wrong on some ive looked at so appreciate all the opinions i just mistook the guys comments since he mentioned value buyong and OP all in same post ...thought he was pointing fingers lol.....picking up 500 in quarters roday also is my birthday so wish me luck......maybe a wisconsin or silver maybe......bless you all and sorry sorry sorry for being crabby......id you wanna send me a doubled 55 cent for my birthday.....well why not? Im in ohio....lol
Yes, this is a pretty common leisure time activity, apparently. Most of them are just people playing around, but some are created deliberately to deceive. We see one or two a week.
