Forgot to mention that this could also be from swimming in my coins like that crazy duck from that cartoon Duck Tales. Is that the cartoon I am thinking of? Yes and sometimes I will just take handfulls of coins and rub then all over my face.

Most people just think that the washing hands stuff is exagerated. But after having two bouts of Chemotherapy I found out from several hospitals that hand shaking, touching stuff with your hands and just many things can actually end up being fatal or close to it. Here is some of things I was told absolutely don't touch during Chemo: Other people's hands, shopping cart handles, public toilet seats and handles, steering wheels of cars that someone else just used, Bike handles that others have touched. And by far never, never pet an aniimal. You eye infection was probably caused by one of the above and not the coins. Most coins have not been handled for a while and germs, bacteria, viruses can not live outside a host for extended periods of time.
    Ahhh yes, wash you hands.

PeeWee Herman sang about the virtues of washing your hands years ago and he was right. It goes -
"A sailor travels to many lands, anywhere he pleases. And he always remembers to wash his hands sos he don't get no diseases!"

ABSOLUTELY!! After radiation treatments, the same thing happened to me. I wasn't paying attention and ended up in the hospital with pnemonia. Spent the new millemium New Years Eve in a hospital bed.

Oh I love jokes---but I think this joke could have been used in a better time and place....to me it just doesn't make any "cents".

    Fingerprints on coins

As a physician, I wholeheartedly agree. It's not widely appreciated that colds are transmitted more often by handshaking than by coughing or sneezing near other people.

But let's talk about the consequences to the coins!

Attached are two photographs. One is concerning, the other is just sad.
One shows someone offering a "high grade" shield nickel on Ebay. The other shows a 1909-S VDB MS64 R for sale with a big fingerprint on the face which I'm sure will decrease its value.

I would never buy a coin photographed in someone's bare hand and I always wash my hands and wear cotton gloves if I have to touch my coins.
