Ok so here is the photo of the First Meris I keep mentioning. It took a change of lighting from regular sunlight to light filtered through a snowy sky and tilting the coin a bit. This is what does not get captured in a de-saturated photo. A golden hue that backlights the fields. I did not adjust anything in processing (brightness, saturation, contrast, nada.) Once again, the Triton photo and the CNG Coiin Shop photo from 2009
Great job capturing that toning! It's a gorgeous coin by all measures As for CNG's photos... yes, they are rather flat but as Ardy said, their volume is staggering and their job is to portray the condition as accurately as possible. In that, they succeed. There is a general consistency in their images which makes it somewhat possible to anticipate what the coin might look like in hand (toning, especially iridescence, is an exception). They invariably look better in hand and with the luxury of adequate time for reshooting and tweaking.
Considering they were from the same source, I am surprised that I like the softer Coin Shop photo better than the harsh Triton. I shot my three new coins this week and decided they are too harsh so you have only seen one. The same person using the same equipment on different days can produce very different photos.
Calling your coins from Triton winners is an understatement! Now you've got one for each hand. Can we look forward to more, or does two sum it up?
Nice!! ... wow 42BC, that new OP-addition is gorgeous!! (yummy) Man, that coin-type is often so well centered and struck, but your new baby is even better than usual ... it's a total winner (congrats)
That is it for Triton. It emptied my piggy bank. Fortunately, I feel they were worth the expense. I'm a sucker for a great portrait, and these two sucked the money right out of my hands.
Beautiful coin & photo. Be careful that you don't cut your eyes when viewing the sharp details in your photo.
Thanks. I changed lenses, lighting and shot long exposure, f/22 at ASA 100. Seems to have done a much better job of grabbing clarity and color. I may re-shoot my other coins now.
