This is the Parthian bronze I'm going to keep. It's Osroes II (190 AD), Sellwood 85.4. 1,93 gr., 13 mm.

And this one is nice, but not good enough. I like 'em VF, not F.

When there is legend, it is nice to be able to read it.
    Mithradates II 123-88BC Sellwood 28.17 Shore 109

But I'm not as picky when there is no legend. I do, however wish my sheep's horns were on flan as clearly as yours.

However my favorite bronze is just fine and that is just fine with me. Smooth counts. Size helps.

Each to his own, but I like the second one as much as the first. Plenty of good detail.

Very nice bronzes, especially the Osroes II and Mithradates II. I have zero bronzes in my collection and hopefully I would rectify that in the near future :D

Your short beard Mithradates II is as nice as one may wish, certainly.

Elymais coins are much to my taste, and may be easily found in much better condition: more quality for your money. Yours is beautiful with those large tresses of hair.

Here's another of my Parthian bronzes, unusual because of its beardless portrait, of king Pacorus II (78-105). It's Sellwood 73.13-16, but I can't make out what the reverse shows, can you?

Have you compared it to the male head right type? I have no experience with that one.

    Very appealing posts!!

So far, I have only two in my current collection; an AE 16 mm (drachm?) bronze of Orodes III and a nice silver drachm of ShapurIII: orodes.JPG orodes reverse.JPG Shapur obverse.JPG shapur reverse.JPG

I have always loved the bronzes of Elymais. They are a bargain and fun to collect.
I have probably ten in a small mini-collection. Sorry, no photo's.

There have been a lot of half decent Elymais drachms on the market lately at very reasonable prices. There must have been a huge hoard.

Yes, I bought 15 or so as a joblot for not much money last year....
They had the tell tale green deposits of hoard material. Sadly lots were dumped in acid it seems as they reappeared stripped of patina all over the place..

I hate when that happens. It's really exasperating how coins are sometimes treated. I received a coin from an auction that looked OK; I looked at it some months later and it was bleeding green.
