Doesn't the head count when grading or with SLQ's is that simply overlooked? I'm here to learn, no reason to take offense from my opinion, I've been wrong plenty on this forum. BTW, I didn't see a book linked under your signature.
Oh, I didn't get offended at all. I'm just trying to understand what you are trying to say (and make sure that you understand what you are saying as well). The head definitely counts - all parts of the coin are important (but some are more important than others). What you see on the head is a weak strike (which is different than wear). My book can be found here. I have an entire chapter on strike, and a chapter on wear (and discuss some ways to tell the difference between the two): http://smile.amazon.com/Art-Science...r=8-1&keywords=The+Art+and+Science+of+Grading
Wouldn't actually matter for full head. It is either there or it isn't, doesn't matter if it was worn off. From the PCGS website for what they would require: Three leaves must be clear and distinct in Liberty’s hair Earhole must be present. Hairline must be distinct from top of forehead to back of neck.
These aren't my series. Yet, love the design. I have a few but they were pulled from circulation many years ago. In my mind, and from what I can recall from reading about the series, the design just didn't hold up to circulation well. In fact they would wear from being stacked in the roll. I've always thought I would start collecting these someday but know it may be a very expensive series to collect in uncirculated grades, which are the only ones of the series that appeal to me. When they are worn, even a little, they are downright ugly. With all that being said, I really like this coin, and from my experience with them, which was mainly gathered from photos, I would venture a guess at 64/63, net 63+.
I'm still firm in my guess at MS-64 with a weaker strike. Those weak areas are too flat to be wear in my opinion. But we will see.
WB.... heavy.....nice coin btw. I'm at 63 on this one .this is one I need for my type set. But have not pulled the trigger yet. I don't collect quarters .
Sorry guys, it's a 63...... I would post but I'm not at home at the present. Older pcgs holder so I was thinking/hoping solid for the grade. Physics is the big winner, plus a slew of others got it right as well.
