I happen to be one of those mail carriers .. in the last two years .. I went from delivering about 20 parcels a day , most smaller than a shoe box, because that was what UPS was for .. delivering large packages , now , I am delivering over 120 to 150 packages a day half are larger heavy boxes from AMAZON { PAPER TOWELS , TIOLET PAPER , BABY DIAPERS , DOG AND CAT FOOD , AND LATEST 40 POUND BOXES OF CAT LITTER .}. the other half is very small packets from china... just go on EBAY and see how much you can buy for 79 cent or less with free shipping .. I have won auctions for one cent free shipping ... you know the post office is losing money on that B S ... post office is doing anything to try and pay those retirement benefits 75 years in advance ... those employees not even born yet
Don't go blaming eBay for this. They have no control over the USPS. NONE! NADA! ZIP! I use eBay shipping with USPS Priority Mail. The USPS rate for a small flat rate box went from $5.05 to $6.45. Ebay still discounts the rate if you buy the postage from them.
This thread got me thinking - I simply do not remember the last time I used First Class Mail. Everything I sell goes Priority, and it's been 20 years since I've written a letter.
Of course, they will say for the convenience...I sell fishing tackle and both FedEx and UPS (UPS had an increase on 12/28) rates have gone up. I feel your pain!
yeah but that $2.60 is up from the $2.04 I was shelling out for a 3 oz. package last month. It adds up, it also goes towards the buyer who will pay more because I add that on to any shipping charge. I want tracking with everything. Never 'Free Shipping'. It's protection from anyone who says, "I never received my item in the mail". Here's the tracking number, take it up with your PO. I'm covered.
It is not my intention to argue about this but my girlfriend works for a mailing company and those charts, weather spot on or not are accurate to a degree. In 2008 direct mail advertising took a huge hit, at that time mostly from the economic chaos going on, and has never recovered to it's heyday. Large companies pulled out of much of it finding it easier and cheaper to use the internet. And though most of us still get our fair share of junk mail ads on a regular basis, I have noticed many companies now only have online catalogs. Even Numismatic News has 12 issues a year online. If you have the time check a magazine called B2B and you will see that even they talk about the hard times of direct mail marketing since the crash of 2008. Remember all those coupon ads we used to receive in the Sunday papers? They are now only a fraction of what they were. There is truth to what mostly everyone is saying but the reasons are far more complex than most of us realize.
