Fantastic OP coin (as usual with Swk). My only Nero bronze (I sold another one years ago)

When I see yours I think...This is what mine looked like...a long time ago...and with Nero looking the other way...

I just checked my catalog and realize the "number 2" coin I have listed as a fake. Sorry. I should have looked before I posted the image.

Good learning opportunity. I was thinking it may have some interesting toning going on.

Why do you say it's a fake?

Not sure. I posted this coin when I purchased it and someone said it was a match on FAC's Fake reports. I never found the match, but I contacted the seller who refunded my money and told me to keep the coin.

Are you unsure? I can't remember who told me it was a fake, but it must have been someone I trust.

I don't see any obvious signs of casting, unless there's a seam along the edge. The devices and lettering meet the field crisply and the wear patterns are on the high spots of the relief, as they should be. I'm not home at the moment, so I can't compare the style with other coins in my references, but it looks fine at first glance. Style and weight vary considerably among Syrian tets depending on the time period. What is the weight and diameter?

To be honest, in my catalog I have it listed as "Possible Fake", so I guess I was never sure enough to list it otherwise. The coin weighs 10.7g and is 23mm. Looking at the coin, I see no evidence of a seam on the edge.

Also, as I remember, the seller argued the coin was authentic, but chose to refund since I had purchased a few coins before.

I'll look it up later tonight. But just finding a die match to a known forgery does not prove that your coin is also a forgery. All it proves is that someone used a coin struck from the same dies as yours to make a fake. There needs to be a preponderance of evidence, and I'm not seeing any evidence of a forgery from your pics.

Yep. I knew there was a reason I had it marked that way. Too bad; however, I didn't spend a dime on it, so it is a fake example in my collection.

Sorry if I got your hopes up, brother. I didn't have time earlier to search the forgery databases, which is what I should have done before I said anything.

Not a problem my friend. It's just too bad cause it's a great design. I'll just have to keep searching for the real McCoy.
