Yeah, I'm not too good at taking pictures of proof coins. It does have very reflective fields, but whenever I get those to show up on camera (iPhone, in this case) I get reflections of everything else in the room, which makes it hard to see the coin itself.
[QUOTE Really excited to get this one in the mail. Finding one of these half crown proof issues this clean is rare. The vast majority of the examples I come across have unattractive, blotchy toning. Definitely paid top dollar for this grade, but worth it in my opinion.[/QUOTE] I would be too, very nice
These two Belize coins have a mintage of only 920. I think it's pretty neat to have a coin that so few people own. Also this Portuguese 10 escudos coin is pretty nice.
Here are some animal coins I picked up for my elephants and turtles collections. I really like the Hungarian 100 forint coin. And the Polish 2 zlote is unusually hard to find compared to most of these coins. The other one is an Israeli 1 lira
Couple German coin pickups arrived. Nice UNC 1895-G pfennig with satin luster 1911 Lubeck 3 marks. Unfortunately has fine hairlines from a wipe, but it was really cheap and I didn't own one of this type.
It is hard to find Mint or Proof sets from Nicaragua since so few were produced and are expensive. I was able to locate the only affordable one. The set has the 5-50 Centavos and the Cordoba. No Silver, but still a nice set. 1972 Nicaragua Proof Set Mintage 20,000
I was looking for the 2016 Somalia Elephant to continue the collection for my Daughter, the Elephant lover. When I found this from the same dealer. I don't know if these really circulate or if they are mainly collector issues. It's Somalia, you know. I liked them so I added them to my collection.
A coin dealer I know sells that set too but expresses his doubts (about the pieces being "officially issued") right next to the set image. Probably made for collectors only ... Christian
After seeing this design last year, I've been on the hunt for the right one. It's not scarce, but when it comes to World Coins, I buy mainly because I like the design. My World Coin collection is eclectic. I'm not trying to complete a set of anything. I found and won this one at a recent auction. The Eric Newman pedigree/provenance is a bonus. I like the idea of adding coins from this famous Numismatist's collection to mine. I think I'm up to a 1/2 dozen of his coins now. This is my other Newman gold coin, won in Nov. 2014. The photos don't show the "orange" patina very well, but it's a beautiful piece.
Here's another recent addition. A French Medal. Louis the XIV on the obverse. I need a wig like that! The reverse commemorates the ending of the Siege of Woerden. Pax is holding a laurel wreath and placing it on the coat of arms of Woerden which is hanging on the pillar. I love the reverse and is the main reason I became interested in adding this to my collection.
