  1. Here you go. High End "Natural" Toning. You are even more out in left field if you think your 20c photo is unaltered. C'mon man. Your making my point for me. Do better please.

  4. I'd say those blues are pretty identical wouldn't you coin community? Same era and all!
Let's take a REAL look at this coin.

If you had half a clue what you were talking about, we could have a discussion. But since all that you want to do is call me a liar and say that a Tru-view image is photoshopped, I am done with you. Good luck with your endevors and congratulations on being the first member that I have ever blocked. I hope that you stick around and learn something before you fail completely.

  7. You question PCGS on almost every level in just this thread alone but their Tru-View is the bible to you. Hipocrisy again. Think about what Tru-View is. Its a marketing tool for them to get more money out of you. Those coins don't have blues that look radioactive in real life....but in Tru-View they do. Explain how that isn't enhancing the photo. I hope you do block me or at least never respond to my threads ever again. I don't need your opinions about something I never asked about in this thread in the first place. I don't need your half hearted encouragement either. Again, my success doesn't hinge on this forum. Maybe next time you will think twice before making a comment on something no one asked you about.

It's easy to see how True View "juices" images. The color is there, you only need to adjust the lighting a little bit to bring it out, and if you look at it under that exact same lighting it will appear just as colorful to your naked eye. There is nothing deceptive happening about it.

All I ever did was express the opinion - emphasizing it as my own opinion - that your avatar coin is not natural toning. If that, to you, is an attack then you can expect to feel pretty put-upon during your time here.

Regardless of the origin of your toned avatar coin, I like the look of it. I saw a similar toned Morgan dollar at a coin shop once selling for $350. It was a common variety, but the toning was a beautiful, rainbow color. I could not tell you what caused that tone, and it was raw, but still amazing to look at.

  10. Thanks Daniel. You are the type of person I like dealing with. Non combative. Don't think they know everything. Just enjoying their hobby. I will deal with you any and everyday. These others could learn from you.

Because everyone is getting so good at artificial toning I only buy TPG certified ones. I have another one I just bought today. Ill shoot you a photo of it. Even more ridiculous than my avatar. I'll never sell either. I have a vault collection that I just won't ever touch. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the normal comments.

And your posts are transparent; the only one you're kidding is yourself. This drivel about "PC" and not worrying about losing potential customers just shows how little you seem understand about wisely running a niche business, or why it's so foolish to unnecessarily drive away the very same people you're promoting it to. You also certainly don't need to take anyone's advice or at least try to conduct yourself in a professional manner, but don't act as if you're somehow above criticisms on something you brought into the discussion and/or your reactions to it.

I couldn't care less if you agreed with my initial post. Again, it wasn't directed towards you, and sure as hell wasn't said in defense of you.

Perhaps you could point out the "inaccuracies and hypocrisy" my post was "dripping with"? And please do explain the economic definition of worth as well, and please don't tell me X is worth whatever someone, even a fool and their money, will pay for it. Gains from ignorance or misrepresentation do not automatically equal value or worth.

Now, since you asked oh so nicely, the below site will not only show many fine examples of "premium toning", but also may present an educational opportunity for one so inclined (hint, hint).

And you should; after all, this is a discussion forum, but if you think the very business you're here promoting is somehow above criticism or questioning simply because you say so, you're sadly mistaken. Just take a look through some of the past threads here and you'll see criticism of sellers and/or businesses is quite normal, even when completely illogical or uncalled for. If you think questionable or potentially harmful claims, especially to new collectors, will go uncountered for the same reason, you will learn otherwise. Some of us actually still care about the health and benefit of this hobby, and will not hesitate to call a dog a dog.

The fact is that every one of us can learn something from every other member here, just as in life every single person we run into throughout the day could teach us something. Instead of continuing with the blah, blah, blah "know it all" accusations, at least try to grasp onto what some of the guys have said to you. Who knows... you just might learn something, and perhaps, when/if the self fluffy ever ends, the reverse may be true as well.

Well, not to just jump in the melee, but regarding the OP's original post:

This is my opinion: Coins in a Rattler attract attention. People believe that the TPG's grading has become more lenient since the early days. I'm not here to debate that in this thread, just stating general market beliefs. Now, many people are out looking for under-graded coins and Rattlers are a good place to start. In the case of the MS65 Washie you posted, if I were in the market, I'd look at it because of when it was graded (indicated by the Rattler), but then assess the coin on it's own merits. I don't like the coin in the holder as it doesn't appeal to my eye. I wouldn't even consider buying the coin, thus the rattler adds no value one way or the other. So I think Rattlers and No-line Fatties are like "curb appeal" in real estate. They attract people to the coin, but will not add value on it's own if the "guts" aren't all there.

As for Monster Toned coins, I direct you to the Simpson Sunnywood coins auctioned by Legend late last year. I consider those perfect examples of the "Monster" definition.

Isn't it about buying the coin on it's own merits? I do not mean any disrespect and hopefully am not angering anyone but I just cannot see why a holder would influence a purchasing decision. I understand a subjective grade by a grading company serves to give someone an idea of condition and worth. But, at the end of the day is it not the holders purpose to protect and preserve THE COIN which should be the focus. I have read all the posts on this forum and it is normal for people to express their opinions on what was asked as well as THE COIN itself. After all this site is named "CoinTalk".

Having said all that, and although I am new to collecting and realize I do not know much, I would not buy that coin. In my opinion there is no way that coin is a MS65. It has no luster, shows wear in many places, is well worn and the strike is very weak. Look at the lettering on the reverse, all of it seems very weak, especially the UNITED in United States of America on top. Like I mentioned. I am not trying to be disrespectful, but how that coin was graded a Mint State 65 baffles me...

That's one of the points you missed my argumentative friend, the coin doctors heat up slabs while the coin rests safely inside with its clean numerical grade and authenticity. That's something a lot of new collectors need to be aware of when purchasing slabbed rainbow toned coins. The Jhon E Cash website is a great place to learn what natural and artificial toning looks like. ;)

Some people collect slabs, and, for those people, the coin inside is secondary. It's also kind of cool to have an old holder. Neither of these things would influence me to pay a lot of money for the coin + slab.
