Memorial day is approaching. A time when we honor those that have fought and given their lives for their country. Another tradition takes place the Sunday preceding Memorial Day. The Indianapolis 500. I have attended the race for over 20 years now and believe me it's a solemn occasion when the crowd bows their heads in memory of the people that have given their lives in the name of freedom. Seeing that the Greatest Spectacle in Racing is soon upon us I'd like to see/know about coins and currency that feature cars. I'm not posting any pics but will lead off with the Indiana state quarter which features an Indy car and the "old style" $10 note that depicts a car "model T maybe?" in front of the U.S. Treasury building. So let's see - what can YOU think of?
The Isle of Man has had coins depicting racing cars.Macao did issue some medal-coins depicting racing cars in the late 1970's. Malaysia did issue a pair of medal-coins back in 1999 to commemorate the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Sepang Circuit. They are a 15 Ringgit & a 25 Ringgit. Aidan.
Aidan for shame!! How could you forget the 1998 New Zealand $10 one hundred years of motoring coin. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-c...d-Decimal/Commemorative/auction-101150268.htm
