didn't have a gratian and didn't have this reverse type. not a bad lookin' coin really. one of my few AE2 coins as well....another plus for me.

Great looking coin with a very attractive sand patina. Nice find! Those AE2's feel good in hand. I've had one very nice one of Mag Max, but not Gratian.

Here are 2 coins of Gratian: The first has a leaf on the exergue, whereas the second has Concordia with a triple G for August on the reverse. Gratianus O.jpg Gratia R Leaf.jpg Gratian O.jpg GratianR.jpg

VERY nice AE-2 of Gratian Chris!!!

My poor little AE-4's are impossible for me to photograph at the moment...but they are just the average common types anyway...

    Did someone call?:D
Ah Gratian, the dandy boy who ticked the legions off by dressing up as a barbarian warrior. A similar analogy would be if the President of the USA dressed up like an ISIS fighter. :woot:. Needless to say, when M.M. showed up no one stuck their neck out for the boy and he was swiftly executed by M.M.'s magister militum. And he showed so much promise early on!:hilarious:

    Very nice coin, Chris.
    Here's mine.

Who's the person he's raising up (?) with the crown or the spiky hair?

    I'm pretty sure that's "the enemy/prisoner" ...

Ooops, or maybe that's the emperor?

I've always thought of her as the personification of the republic. She wears a radiate crown, which is indicative of royalty among the Romans - so she's no ordinary woman. The emperor raises her up and the reverse inscription reads "The Restoration of the Republic."
