    Over two thousand and forty three years ago today the Roman Senate granted Gauis Octavius the title of Augustus. Many historians see this as the beginning of the Roman Empire that would last until 1453 CE.

    Congrats Augustus, you earned it!;)

    My two favorites of Augustus that I sold recently, a large bronze of Colonia Celsa, and a memorial coin issued by Tiberius - these last have some of the best portraits of the emperor. One could collect ONLY the coins of Augustus and have an extremely eclectic collection.

    Great acquisition MM, a bit far from what you've regaled us with lately, but nice metal and style : portrait is so nice that it's not much affected by the off centering

    Lol! I bought this coin in 2014 from Mike Vosper on Vcoins, so it was before I came down with Siliquae fever!:p
    Still one of my favorites though.
