Hello all, I Inherited some coin from my Grandfather as I’m not a coin collector any and all info would be very helpful, rarity, value, even opinions on condition and country of origin would be helpful!

I have an Hawaii 1883 Quarter, a Chinese coin, a Prussia 1888 5 marks coin, a Austria 1831 silver coin, a silver coin from 1765 with George the Third on it,and a Saxony coin from 1763

Ps. I’m new to message boards so if I make a mistake anywhere please tell me and I will correct it and please forgive the error.

    Thanks!

There are some very interesting things there. Nice little inheritance. It looks like many of them are fairly well labeled.

According to the Red Book (which gives at least a rough estimate but doesn't always reflect current market value) an 1883 Hawaiian quarter in XF goes for about $150 (assuming it is a real XF and not just labeled as such).

To get a rough estimate for the other coins, you can do some searches online by country, type and year or search auction houses such as Heritage.

Thanks good tips! Also good to know I can seemingly trust the labels.

You have some very nice coins. First, do not remove from the 2X2 enclosures. Do not handle or touch the coins. DO NOT CLEAN the coins. Is there a reputable dealer near you? I would have someone evaluate the coins to determine if authentic. If authentic, all of the coins are worth more than the values written on the enclosures. Be wary if the dealer makes you an offer until fully evaluated. Get a 2nd opinion.

The first coin is a 1763 Saxony(German States) Thaler
2nd appears to be a medal of some sort rather than a coin. Need a better front on photo to read the reverse easier
3rd is an 1831 Austria Thaler
    4th an 1888 German 5 Mark
5th a Hawaiian 25 cent piece, very nice
last is a 1933 1 Yuan from China.

All in all a very nice collection

that Hawaiian quarter is amazing. :jawdrop: what ever you do... do NOT clean any of these coins. you will kill the value if you do.

No birds flying over the boat. Is that a good thing?

well it helps to determine the date. if it did have birds flying over the boat and the suns rays on the right side of the coin... it would be worth a lot more money $450-600

nope no birds. sorry your coin is dated either 1933-1934. some other guys here in CoinTalk will be able to tell you which date it is. either date has the same value money wise. $34-40 if the coin is real and authentic ?? many coins from China are faked. I am guessing yours is real.

your first coin is puzzling me. I cannot find it in my catalogs. if it is a thaler it might be worth a fortune. wait for other opinions of that coin. 2nd coin looks like a very nice medal. I am gonna look on eBay for something simular to yours... be right back...I am sure it has good value :greedy:...

your welcome. I like helping people find out what they have. your grandfather had a great collection. you should feel very honored to have it. to bad you have to buy tires. I would keep at least 1 of them for sentimental reasons of which are priceless.

Don’t worry I have some other stuff of his to hold onto for sentiment.
