Not sure how often this stuff happens. The more I look, the more I find. Nice toning is starting to come thru. Is this common? Thanks.
If the coins were stored under less than optimum conditions, the temperature and/or humidity could affect the coins. Chris
Again, what? You lost me man! Did you actually look at the pictures I posted? Did the temperature or humidity put those 8 teeth/gouge marks in that Philadelphia mint coin? I think I need a second opinion!!
Sorry! I thought you were talking about the toning on the Mint token. I didn't pay any attention to the marks through the cello because I just assumed that they were on the cello, not the coin. Those marks (gouges?) appear to be PMD. Note that you can see a duplicate set of impressions on the cello below the token. This means the contact was made after it was packaged. Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. Chris
Not a problem Chris. You had me worried there for a minute. I thought I was losing my mind. Yes, PMD after the coin (token) was made. I think those impressions (teeth marks) on the token were made "during" the packaging (wrapping of the cellophane) not after it was packaged. Those teeth marks look like its from the cellophane wrapping machine. Don't you think?
I've never seen one of the machines in operation, so I can't say. It's safe to assume that the cello was already in place when the marks were made. Chris
Yes, the rest of the coins in the set are fine. I was just thinking of it in terms of the mint set in general. Most of the errors/anomalies I have, I've come to find out are PMD. I was hoping it would have added a "little" more value to this $5.00 mint set... No such luck. From what you're saying, it looks like that damage just takes away from the value. I guess if I ever want to off load it, I should probably break the set up.
