Did I get scammed on E-bay with an 1841 dime?

Right on! ALWAYS first contact the seller, it's only fair....we're human. And never be a douche and threaten negative feedback or try to bully the seller! I've dealt with my share of psychopaths on ebay and it sucks.

Hello again everyone! This morning I got this message from the seller (yes the message was in all caps):

I HAD THREE OF THESE THAT WERE SOLD AND IT LOOKS LIKE I SCREWED UP WITH YOURS AND SOMEONE ELSE. PLEASE SEND BACK COIN FOR REFUND WHILE I TRY AND FIND OUT WHO ELSE GOT WRONG COIN, MY APOLOGIES

It does look to be an error on his part, but one thing has me worried.

I decided to look back through his completed listings to see if he sold any other 1841 seated liberty dimes. Based on his completed listings in the last 15 days he has only sold 1 seated liberty dime and that was to me. His completed listings show that I was the only person to purchase a 1841 seated liberty dime in the 15 day time frame. So I guess I'm just confused at how he confused my order with someone elses when I was the only person to order a 1841 dime in the last 15 days?

None the less he offered me a refund so I guess I should take it and just forget the whole experience ever happened.

Thanks everyone for the helpful insight on this situtation,
    Jimmbob82

Maybe the sale was not on eBay.

In any case, I would do what you're doing as well. Error seems the most likely cause of the confusion here, since, like others have said, he's not getting rich off a < $15 purchase. He'd have to do that to hundreds of people to be even vaguely worthwhile, and that's clearly not the case.

Ebay probably isn't his only active venue, and just because he's only selling one doesn't mean he only has one. Plenty of opportunity for Murphy's Law to rear its' ugly head here, and it isn't worth his while to scam you for so little money.

Maybe the Caps Lock button was eluding the seller (depends on the person), but maybe the ALL CAPS BUTTON WAS STUCK. (Note: not yelling or antagonizing here lol) The impersonal nature of emails and online communications has me take such stylistic traits of written messages with a grain of salt. I wouldn't infer tone where there may be none at all.

Well, any number of scenarios could have happened. Perhaps he sold some items directly via PayPal, per request of the buyer. Then that wouldn't show up at all on eBay. Or, it could have been sales from beyond 15 days, so the seller may be trying to figure out who got the wrong coin from several weeks ago. Any number of scenarios is consistent, so I give sellers the benefit of the doubt. Ultimately, you're going to get the refund so you're good to go, despite the hassle. Besides the refund and return shipping label/reimbursement, the least the seller could do would be to leave you positive feedback, if anything, as an apology for the inconvenience.

Good to hear he his working with you. GOOD LUCK

On another note, anyone that has ever sent me an all caps message has been a moron - likely with IQ's <70.
