Just got another few items for consignment. Included was this 1964 D Kennedy Half - in hand, the most gorgeous Kennedy I've ever held.

When I got it home (under the loupe) looks like it's a DDO as well! Tried to get some super closeup images with a new USB microscope I got for Christmas...but it doesn't really take high-res images, so it's only so good at this point.

Anyway, here are the images - enjoy!

Kind of has a bit of the clad style rainbow toning to it, very unusual for a 90% coin.

Here's a shot with the lights in a different orientation (some coins are so pretty they need to be photographed more than once)

Very nice looking Kennedy. How distracting are the 4 blotches on his neck when viewing it in-hand?

Well, like any coin with a contact mark, it just depends on where the lights are. I tried to make sure they at least showed in the photos so (when it was listed on eBay) no one sent me a crazy person rant accusing me of trying to hide something.

Nor was I. Like you stated, these blemishes can show more or less depending on the coins angle and lighting. I was just asking for your opinion. Wasn't trying to disparage the coin.

No worries - I wasn't insinuating that you were knocking the coin. Just kind of thinking out loud. :)

Well, I find those "blemishes" a bit distracting and while you might really like the coin, I'd caution you to not let the color of the coin distract you.

There's a big blemish in the hair as well as scratches in the obverse fields combined with some chatter on the shield. The cheek looks worn as well.

It's a nice coin until one looks a bit closer and its those closer looks which dictate it's ultimate grade and price.

    Good Luck.

Nice coin...I like a little more tone on it. The reverse is really cool--nicer tone on the reverse than the obverse, but basically, a choice toner.

Here are some of my favorite JFK halves in my collection. Here is a 2014 reverse proof minted at West Point from 90% silver.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

At the FUN show last week, there were several 64 Kennedy's that looked like this:

In my opinion, the obverse of this one is incredibly attractive and desirable. Unfortunately, teh sellers were aware of this, and were asking $500 or thereabouts.

Just a question. I noticed that a lot of the pictures of the Kennedy Halfs, have a nicer and better
Tone color on the reverse side. Does anyone know why this is?

The color of the tone is nice. About 15 years ago I used to make gold nugget jewelry. When I finished with what I made I would gold plate it with 18K even thought the nuggets I were using assayed higher than 18K. By plating the finished jewelry it made it look a lot nicer.
When you read the books or listen to people talking they say that gold does not tarnish. That is a false statement. If it is 24K then it does not Tarnish.
14k/24K is 58 percent gold. 10K/24k is 41.6 percent gold. Now some of you are wondering
Where this is going, just hang on a second. The lower Karat gold can have various types of other
Metals, most of the time the highest other metal is copper with some nickel. Just for general information, 99 percent of all high school rings are made by Balfour and they are only 10K
Gold, unless you special order them and pay more too get 14K.
Any way I have a small box of 10K rings that I bought back in the 1970'S and since they were not
Worn for so many years they just laid in the box and tarnished. I tried all the usual methods to clean them butI just could not get that original luster back. So I ordered a cheap 14K gold plated kit off EBay for 25.00. Now all the rings look nice now and I can display them along side with a bunch of other things that I collect. Now back to the Kenndy half dollar, not long ago I wondered what it would
Look like if I gold plated a coin. So I used a 1964 Kenndy half to try it out.
I dipped it in the solution for about 5 seconds and it came out with a real light gold color. So I just kept dipping to see how far I could go. When I finished both sides look just like the back of your
Half. I just thought too myself, this day and age people have no scruples about trying anything,
so it got me to thinking there is more than likely some people out there doing this so they can get a higher price for there coins. End of story Good Day.
