Hi everyone-I'm new to CoinTalk and joined because I recently came into possession of my late grandfather's collection of antiquities and "oddities". My sister and I have been sharing the responsibility of research! We have several of these Chinese marriage token coins, as well as some square footed spades and another type of what appears to be a Chinese currency coin. We are honestly at a loss as to whether or not they are reproduction or genuine, as he had a mixture of both types of items in his collection. Pictures below, any information would be extremely helpful (specific keywords, whether or not these are genuine, etc)-thank you!
Nicole I would doubt that these are real. I only say that because I've seen such a ton of souvenir reproduction/fantasy pieces. Someone with more knowledge than I will certainly chime in.
Just wanted to inquire further-even though these are reproductions, can anyone offer any insight as to what the gold-tone one in the last picture is, specifically? I managed to Google and come up with info on the others, but couldn't seem to find anything about that one. Could it be a Feng Shui coin? Even if it's a reproduction I'd like to know because I'm trying to sell these and figured a budding collector/fan of Chinese decor might want them. Thanks in advance !
These read top to bottom them right to left. Yours reads (as far as I can tell as it seems to be copied by someone not familiar with the characters): "Chong Ping Tong Bao". I have a set of books which catalog about 5,000 types of charms and yours is not listed there, so I assume it is pure fantasy, but with good luck charms they often dont say anything real. Its not a copy of anything, and may not even be a legitimate modern charm, but a simple tourist item.
