Folks, if you haven't figured it out yet, there are different types of PegLegs for the IKE Dollar simply because the term refers to the R in LIBERTY which has no serif.

For the 1971-S Proof IKE, there are several types in several different die states of which MOST are derived from ODV-006 which means that the no-serifed "R" was by design.

Speculation is that the original design for the high relief proof coin was non-serifed and somewhere during the minting process it was decided to add a serif to the R in LIBERTY on the Master Hub which accounts for the rudimentary serif which exists on about 75% of the 1971-S Proof IKE Dollars. These serif's look like they were added with a "dremel" tool of some sort.

Both of these "R's" exist in various die states within the 1971-S Production of Proof IKE Dollars.

According to US Mint Production records, 1,222,170 1971-S Proofs were produced in 1971 (Sep and Dec) and 3,043,064 were produced in 1972 (Mar and Jun).

Of those totals, it is speculated that only the coins produced in 1971 were of the "non-serifed" designs.

Yep! Silver is pretty cheap right now but to be honest, $12 for your coin has very little to do with the price of Silver. Melt, today is $4.44 so, if I were silver shopping, I'd look to pay no more than $7.50 for the coin. I have paid $6.00 for these back around 2006 when silver was hovering around $12 but, given the big run up in 2011, a lot of folks are into these for around $16 each.

There are 2 of DDRs, But the straight peg leg is different and there is some DDRs with no images too .

When here's an image of the MintMark .
I'll go through the huge list again, over at IDDD too . 26.jpg

Wonder what the worst coin turned in a proof set looks like. Or if the mint "itself" put the coin in lopsided or upside down.

It's the mint that puts them in ...

As far as I know .....

Yes, just wondering how often the mint screws up when putting the sets together.

The "R" you are depicting is a 1971-S Proof coin of which that "R" was by design. This means that roughly 28% or the 1971-S Proof IKEs are some variant of this particular "R".

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of the January 2008 Numismatist and reading the article published by the IKE Group regarding PegLeg Ikes.

If you cannot find this then PM your email and I'll send you a copy.

After more research its not DDO-016 .
So I went back on IDDD site and this time set out to match up some mint-marks . Well low and behold I think I've found a match .

The one I match up to is Stage C .... 141-horz.jpg
