This is interesting area of exonumia to collect, Sam. I like your example very much. I don't have any in my collection, but might pick up one some day if the price is right. My first impression of the portrait was that it's Ben Franklin. I knew Ben in the "old days" and it looks just like him. Bruce
This was the second repousse coin I purchased. I would have posted both at the same time but one of my bulbs failed in my two light sources. This one is taken with just the remaining spot, so you see shadowing. It is also was taken using my macro setting. Therefor the main coin is out of focus in order to get the better picture of the pop out. There is a difference of 1/4" between the two surfaces.
One came up awhile back but a sniper got me. 14th ENGR BN (numerous locations, VN5690a, Brass, 21mm, 4.5grms, C/A) From Vietnam: Order of Battle "The 14th Engineer Battalion (combat) was equipped to perform forward area construction, obstacle preparation, demolition work and fighting as infantry." Shelby Stanton
Really nice piece Saltysam. I picked up Paul Cunningham's new book on Lincoln stuff at the Fun show. He list these in his book. You got a great deal. He list the dime like this at $100-$200 and the half at $200-$300. Having the Pat. bar on the reverse is cool. Nice find.
Picked this little guy up yesterday. These look to be uncommon, but several have sold, including one at Heritage in 04. NGC grades them, for what it's worth. I was fortunate to get one with the original envelope:
I like the Eddie's token, Circus. The die crack or split planchet is very interesting. Can you tell which it is? Bruce
Very nice, Jester. I have a couple of Mehl tokens but none with an envelope. That makes yours special. Bruce
Do plan to get this one graded? ? I would since you have paperwork for it. Maybe Well worth the money!
Cool looking tokens up there. Here's a couple more I added to my collection. Someday, I gotta get totally busy and take pics of all of mine. That will keep me busy for awhile.
Got a couple more, on the 1949 up there it looks like corrosion around the edging but in hand it doesn't and it's fine. Here's a brothel token, I don't think it's real. I mean it's real but I don't know if it was actually used in a brothel. Days, long ago.
Nice, Fretboard. I like them all. There are a lot of fantasy brothel tokens out there. I can never tell the genuine ones from the "souvenir" types. The exposition medal is pretty cool too. Nice collection of tokens. Bruce
Thank you, jester3681, for posting the leaflet which describes the Max Mehl coin/token. I have one of these tokens and could not figure out who or what was on the obverse.
