Ok, David Lange wrote about this little thing a couple of months ago, I think the Numistmatist published the article. The article is available here. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5022/USA-Coin-Album/ I think someone here even shared something about this little gadget here too. Anyway, ever since I read Lange's article I've wanted to find one. I was not around when these were new, or when coin collecting was big in the 60s, but I dig the simplicity of this thing and I think it can still be useful. Mine works, and I love it! Got it at out club auction tonight for $7.25!
I had one of these years ago great for a quick scan of a roll of coins. But must admit they fell way short of a loop and going through a roll the old fashion way one coin at a time.
I would only use it on coins dated in the 1960s as I sit at desk with my smoking jacket on and favorite pipe curled in my hand as I have a curious but forceful look on my face
I have one of these in the original box. It used to be my grandmothers - was left behind after all the actual coins got taken away for safety.
Cool article. I remember having one of those when I was a kid - used it for searching penny rolls from the bank. Don't know what happened to it.
I had one in the 70's, but mine was sized for cents and nickels. I can still remember the day I tried to get a Victoria farthing into it and it got stuck in the cent tube. I pushed it out with a screw driver and scratched it. Silly 12 year old.
I inherited one if these with the copper and nickel in my grandfather's collection. Works like a dream!
