I bought $30 of nickels yesterday and after going through them I found this one sticking out. It appears that either Jefferson's hair grew or I'm seeing things. I lined up everything on both nickels, the dates, the lettering, edges, initials, and rims. I thought I would post it here for others to take a look at. I think my eyes are playing tricks on me. One is taken in regular light and the others under an led light.
You are not seeing things, they are quite different. I would think that they came from two different dies and/or hubs.
I don't see any difference, but maybe you should move the top coin further away from the rim of the bottom coin and use lighting to eliminate the shadow before taking the photo. Sorry, Rick, I hope I haven't offended you. Chris
The only thing I see is die deterioration. As the force of striking coins wears upon the die, the elements tend to get bloated and distorted. The second "abnormal" coin appears to be from a late die state, and exhibits weakness of detail and die deterioration on most of the elements shown.
