I've been putting together a Morgan set for about 5 years. The end is almost in sight. I still need the 1880-CC, 1885-CC, 1886-S, 1888-S and 1889-CC. For those who have completed this set, I'm wandering what your last coin was and what you did after finishing it? I hope to finish in 2005 but may upgrade a few afterwards. Thinking about completing my Barber half set next.
Howdy pcrdnadave - Welcome to the Forum !! Sounds like you've got quite a set there if that's all you need to finish Never completed a Morgan set myself, but then I never tried to either. And since I only collect world coinage now - reckon I never will. Oh well - best of luck to you
Welcome, prcdnadave. I've seen you on other forums. Glad you have decided to join us here. Nope, haven't got all the Morgans. Got all the Jeffs, though.
Yes, I have been on other forums but this one seems much more civil and looks like it sticks to coin topics. I may have even "found" this forum from one of your threads. I have a huge coin habit and might even try to sell at the next coin show here in Charleston, WV next spring, just to be in the atmosphere. Looks like I also need a coin pic for my name. I'll try to scan a 93-s Morgan today and see if I can get it in there.
Well, I try to put in a plug every chance I get. Glad you like the atmosphere here. I believe "avatars" have to be 100x100 pixels or less. Might want to check on that to be sure.
Hi Dave, I'm also nearing the finishing of my Morgans I need 10 more including the two keys. I can't buy much in the winter months because my contractor work slows to a halt. Can you tell me what cond is your 93-S & 94-P are? Greg
Hey Greg, two years ago I picked up an ANACS graded 93-S in VG10 from a flea market dealer in TN. Its a nice original coin in that has a nice color to it. I belive its overgraded and has been "pecked" with the tip of a knife (not indicated on the holder), but it looks good and I'd never be able to get it for the same money today $1400. The 94 I picked up raw at a flea market here in Charleston, WV last year for $600. I was a little nervous after I bought it that I had overestimated my counterfit detection ability. I sent it to ANACS and it came back F12 no problems. I'll add another reply in a second with a pic if I can figure out how to do it. Any advise on how to add pics would be appreciated. I usually copy and paste a HTML link but that didn't seem to work in the test threads for me.
Welcome to the forum. The easiest way to get the pics in, is to click the go advanced button and then use the manage attachments link. Just be sure to have the correct size and format.
I store my pics in a site called "photobucket". Will it work with pics stored there? I'm a real newbie with pics, don't have my own web page to post from.
Not sure if that will work on a remote site or not. I use pics directly from my computer. If this actually works, click go advanced, then the small yellow box that says insert image. Post the link and it should work.
Thanks, I'll try that. I tried it once on another site and when I logged off my computer all anyone else could see was a box with a red X in it. But if the JPEG or whatever is stored in this forum it should work. I realize now I'll have to wait untill I can get back to work to scan my coin. I forgot to email it to myself so I could post it at home.
Oh, and BTW, I'd give my eye teeth for a draped bust dollar like that one. Right now I'm thinking about trying to get a 1801 or 1802 draped bust half before the price corrects to what I think it should be which is a WHOLE lot more than the book prices.
Hello pcrdnadave. I collect Morgans as well and have been for about two years. I still need 18 coins to complete the Dansco set. I wish I would have started with the key dates first, back when they were more affordable. Oh well. My coins are XF and up so now if I want to maintain that quality, it gets expensive. I'm sure I'll have to lower my standards to get the last dozen needed. I still need 7 CC mintmarks and I think the last coin I buy will be the 1889-cc. I don't think I'll ever have the 1893-s or the proof 1895. I'll probably buy one of those proof copys you see on Ebay to fill the holes.
I'm looking for the 1886-S and 1888-S to go up in value and those will be the next ones I buy. These are very hard to find in attractive, original condition and always go for more than book prices.
I lucked out and got a nice 1886s for $60 back in July. I'm still chasing the elusive 1888s. Now with the holiday season upon us, money is tight. I'll be doing a lot of looking with no buying...Oh well, it sure is fun.
