Not sure where to put this, since we don't have an Exonumia forum (I would suggest that we could use one of those).

I recently came across a medal that I think qualifies for the So-Called Dollar series, but it wasn't listed in either of the reference books - either the 1963 one or the recent revision: http://www.coinbooks.org/esylum_v10n05a08.html .

The obverse shows the Tower of the Sun (a slightly different pattern than that one showed on the Charbneau Dollars [HK 470-490 and HK 1033]), It's possible that the minor differences just come from the design behing enlarged / blown up from 12mm to 38mm. The same Tower of the Sun pattern is found on the 490a medal, which was only recently included in the series.

The reverse appears to be identical to the reverse of HK479 - the Type I (Protestant wording) Lord's Prayer Dollar.

    I'm wondering a few things:
    1) Is there any reason that this wasn't included in the original reference book (other than perhaps being unknown to the authors)?

    2) Does anyone else have or have you seen an example of this piece?

    3) Any estimate on value?

I would catalog this as HK479a, but HK490b would also be a reasonable way to shoehorn it into the series.

There were a lot of medals produced before 1960 that were deserving of being added to the 2nd Edition but never were. I call the additions to the 2nd Edition, "Friends and Family" if you get my drift. That's when I quit collecting SCD's.

There's a "Show us your exonumia" thread in Coin Chat. The thread is usually on page one or two.

Well, doesn't that indicate that a sub-forum would be appropriate?

Doesn't matter what I think. Suggest it to Peter; it's his site.

Certainly true, if a bit abruptly worded. Is there a forum for making suggestions?

These tokens were made for the San Francisco World's Fair 1939-1940
known as the Golden Gate International Exposition.

This one has a similar reverse:

    Reverse:

    THE TOWER OF THE SUN

    Brass, 26mm, 5.86gm
