I lost interest when they kept going after the states... too many coins and a bit overwhelming. It's great for the newbie collector I guess.
The trouble with this as an error is, you have to explain how it happened. The D is a negative on the die, so no impact could make it look like that. The upshot is, whatever caused it could not have been at the Mint. Knowing the minting process is key to identifying errors.
I think the national park quarters are kind of overkill. I really hope they don't decide to do a second run of them after the first set of them. I'm also kind of bummed that my state chose Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial for its park. That memorial may be impressive, but I was really hoping they'd choose Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The thing is I just got it last night. I did my normal search and was kinda shocked by this. I've done a couple of hours researching and found nothing. I took another look at my other ones and they're fine in that area. This is boggling because whatever caused this caused it when it was hot. Just the way it's pushed toward the center is unreal to me. I live far from any dealers that can tell me anything "Special"? about it besides off the internet. Small town, no car. Thanks for your added info. I'm definitely going to try what I can.
I'd like to see them use a lottery to pick business cards and reproduce them on the reverse of quarters. Effectively making them into Good for 25c Ad tokens. And with no political correctness! If a gun shop or liquor store wins the draw they get their ad. If some humpback zombie from wallstreet wins they get their ad. Anyone can believe they're a rock star if they win.
Yes the 64 have the most silver content, but 65 also have more silver content than any date after it. I also have a '57 silver so the silver isn't limited to the '64. Sorry I'm quite new at this, yet have been collecting for some years now and researching, so excuse me if I misworded the '65 being silver. I was not referring in the context of being mostly silver, only more than today's
I'm with Dave. I think it is PMD. It doesn't take much of a hit to move the metal around on the letters and/or numbers. Chris
By all means. Even if you end up being positive that it couldn't have happened at the Mint, what you learn will be of use for the rest of your career as a numismatist.
If a young person were to ask me where to start to see if he/she really wanted to collect coins, I would point them in this direction.
Duly noted. I've collected them thinking about silver in them. I don't know how I never thought about that. For some reason my mind set was silver. I apologize and thank you for bringing this to my attention. I feel like a fish even though I've searched for years. For some reason I guess I never thought about that. I've been keeping all '65s, Dimes and nickels as well due to this thought
If you're not making mistakes, you're being spoon-fed. I prefer to wield my own fork, even at the cost of occasionally using it to eat crow.
Hahaha yes. Me as well. I understand mistakes will happen. I'm glad I signed up for this site! Seems to me everyone is nice when being informative on a subject. Thanks-Happy new year and GOD BLESS
Pretty much tire of all the recycle stuff the US Mint is putting out. They need to stop making so much stuff. But of course this is where the greed comes from the US Mint. Need to get back to basic.
