Wow some people got money like that? I want to share this webpage with story with you all - http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ra...n-in-tampa/ar-AAguu9H?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=DELLDHP Quote - "No, this particular coin that went to auction Thursday evening in Tampa sold for just under $2 million. The 1894-S dime was struck at the San Francisco Mint. Only 24 were made, and only nine likely still exist." - closed quote Keep your eyes open for the other 1894 S Dimes! Quote - "There's also a lot of interest in what happened to the other, long-missing 1894-S dimes. In an effort to track down some of the coins, Heritage Auctions is offering a $10,000 reward to be the first to examine any previously unreported, genuine examples of the coins." - closed quote
I watched that auction in the Heritage room. Just after it, a 1916-D mercury dime in MS65 FB went for $40,000 (plus the juice), and I watched a Standing Liberty Quarter in an old NGC MS64 holder sell for MS65 FH money. Clearly it was undergraded, but geez... stuff was getting bid WAY up.
Some stuff is. The seated stuff on Wednesday night went way low. An 1890 MS68 quarter that went for over 17k in 2015 just sold for 6k plus buyers premium.
Did you notice the author seems to think David Hall grades every coin at PCGS lol. Interestingly enough that coins apparently sold for 1.9 million 7-8 years ago in a private sale. I would venture to guess the consignor was less than thrilled with the final price
Everyone's finally realizing the weakness of "faith-based currency" occurs when it has none and want a shelter from the green toilet tissue.....
The auction has actually be rather weak overall, but what would a numismatic rarity whose entire value lies in "faith-based currency" have to do with any of that? The dime is a dollar in bullion value and the quarter not much more than that.
Unless you're a Seated fan. Then, you ain't spending sh*t. I believe the issue may be a bit more complex than that.
I have never been a fan of the seated design. In my opinion it looks too "blobby", for lack of a better term. In other words, it lacks symmetry. Liberty's appearance is also overweight and she is seated which makes her seem lazy. Not the ideal projection of American ideals which is to be enterprising and hard working.
