Are the colored silver coins - the future collectibles?.

The ONLY "colored" coins that I have are the New York quarter and ASE. They commerate the terrorist attack on 9/11/2001. I have coins from the first year to the 5th anniversary of the attack. I'm going to keep going with these "anniversary" coins to keep reminding me of what happened on that terrible day.

I have one hologram ASE (which is just as bad, if not worse), and it's OK, but it's not something I'd get a whole bunch of. I never figured it would look amazing, but it actually looks worse than I thought it would IMHO. I paid melt for it, heh, so it wasn't all that bad. The Canadian hologram Maples and other coins are much nicer.

 

I think all told I have about a dozen plus a couple of cannuck Hollos (which are superb) including some commemerating the Twin Towers, the Challenger Disaster. will post a few more scans tomorrow

I am surprised at a lot of your reactions, when those hucksters on the Coin Vault and others sell gold and platinum plated quarters everyone claims that they are worthless and I agree!

But because the Canucks are doing it and god forbid our mint tries it, evreryone will be ok with this "novelty"?

It is another marketing item, like the hucksters on tv, lets leave it at that...and for the canucks like Mikey they'll make anything.

 

They are just souvenirs, never going to be anything good about them.

 

Not quite true they will become collectable in there own right, many allready are, what you fail to understand is that these things would not be made if there was not a market for them, and I am not talking about coin collecter here but, fans of sport, movies etc.

time will tell. remember they are much expensive. anyway. so far i don't want to collect them. but i might buy few pieces for fun. and if it is cheap.

 

If you consider what merchandise for a hit movie goes for then a bit of silver that has been painted or had a hollo attached for 39 bucks is cheap LOL As I think I said earlier I found 3 silver rounds for the film Batman selling for $115

 

I used to save one ounce silver bars in the 70's, some colorized from the various mints they were neat when I was 14,but today I still have them and my dad didn't melt mine down, but at this point in my life I would.

BUT, the US Mint as far as I know never made such items, my kids pokeman cards were also halos and worth a ton five years ago, today you can but them by the box full, like beanie babies and now the webkins junk.

Sure you may always find a hardcore Batman fan to buy a Silver round but the US Mint should stay out as far as I'm concerned.

We don't even have a Proof set yet!?!?!?!

Never said the mint should be involved in the production, personaly I hope that they never do. What I said was that these things become collectable in there own right. Art bars have been around for years as have silver rounds this is just taking things to the next level.
A number of mints round the world have tryed Holos and some of them are stunning, I believe that the Australians have managed to capture a piece of film on a coin!! Some are set with gems but they are just bullion in the final analsis, you might not like my eagle with a gold holo on it LOL but it is still one ounce of silver come what may
By the way early casino chips sell for quite a juicy premium
