I inherited a few coins from my Uncle after he passed away and I took this one into a shop today to have it looked at. The shop I went to specialized in American coins so they couldn't help me, but they told me to jump on this forum and ask you guys. The gentleman at the shop did see this coin appeared to be real and could be 1,000 years old. If you guys could help me out or point me in a better direction, it would be much appreciated. I am in the Seattle area, so maybe if you know of a better shop to take this to that would be great. I added more photos to the thread. Thanks!
I took the picture with my phone let me try to scan it. What are coins that are 2000 years old worth?
I am in Seattle, too. I am not impressed with the knowledge (or lack thereof) of coins at the major coin dealer in Bellevue and Seattle who advertises a bunch (you probably know who I mean). I would wait until there is a decent-size show in town and take the coin(s) there.
Hi Jonny, welcome. Sorry about your uncle. Your coin isn't 1000 years old, it is ~ 2000 years old, maybe a little older I agree with Pellinore. I'm guessing Indo-Scythian-- an area I don't know much about, but you can look for similar coins on Wildwinds and various auction archives. Try looking through CNG's archives with search term "Indo-Scythian" and see if you can find a match. There is writing on your coin which will tell you the king's name. I'm not good with these "Eastern" coins but several people on CoinTalk can probably give you a more accurate identification. Here are your images, edited for ease of viewing.
Next decent show around here, January 16 and 17. Kent Commons 525 4th Avenue North Kent, Washington 98032
