I've not a clue why you're getting hammered on this, Chris. Yes, I think you're wrong sometimes but this ain't one of those times. :)

In WWI, the Germans spread rumors within India that the British were running out of silver. The Indian population is precious-metal centric, and only tolerated British paper scrip because there was a system in place to let them trade scrip for silver on demand. The German propaganda forced a run on silver in India, and the British contracted with the Americans to purchase 260 million ounces to forestall the problem.

    That's where the Morgans went.

That's all right. You can't expect to hit a home run every time you step up to the plate. However, when I've been proven wrong, I'm not ashamed to admit it............On second thought, it depends on who proved me wrong.:woot::woot::woot::woot::woot:

By the way, I'm not getting hammered on this subject. @usmc60 is a new collector who is just looking for answers.

As you can tell I did not do that good in history. So draft me. Now to answer your other question their just be honest with people, Tellem like it is the coin is worth whatever spots siver prices or at the time. Or that you can possibly make a little more over spot price, beginning collectors are always looking for missing coin. And I'm sure if you look on the Internet you will get an idea of what your coin may be worth at this time. Or go to your local coin dealer, A high end dealer most likely will not have low grade coins. I have one of those right down the street and you have to wear cotton gloves when you go in, I feel like I'm walking in to tiffany's. (let's just all have fun collecting.)

I'll let you in on a little secret. I didn't know squat about the Pittman Act until I started collecting coins. There are many numismatic books that have taught me a lot about our history like Robert Van Ryzin's The Crime of 1873: The Comstock Connection or Roger Burdette's From Mine to Mint.

More than a decade ago, I joined my first coin forum, and they had a very strict policy about offensive language. They even had a built-in censor to block (BLEEP!) such words and phrases. I remember the first time I used the word "idiot" to describe a buyer who paid too much on FleaBay. Naturally, it was blocked. But, like Spell Check on most computers, there are always ways to get around the problem. And so, I came up with the word "bidiot". The computer doesn't know that this is an offensive word.

Yes, there probably are some white-gloved, high-end dealers who turn their noses up at low-end dreck, but the vast majority almost always have junk bins for the beginners and lower-income collectors to search. It's just good business because some of those low-end collectors will one day collect higher-end coins and they'll remember the "little shop around the corner" that helped them get started. Just don't ask them to buy those assumed treasures that someone told you were worth money. :yuck:

I found these back in 2014. Some have the initials chipped, some have a reverse die crack, some have both. I got Anacs to attribute them as Rev Die Crack & Die Chip. I sold an ms67 full steps one last month for $40. I have sold them by the roll in the past and bought gold with the profits. Although they are minor errors, they are fun to find, sell, and hoard for a decade. Hope this helps.
