Came across this article today and thought it was interesting: I wonder how much these will be going for on eBay.
LOL thats a new one, not bad if you are into comics, wonder if they have a Batman or Catwoman one dd:
they will probably have a coin for each character int he new fantastic 4 movie ... the 'return of the silver surfer' is in that one
Hope that move into the DC worl as the FF & SS are from the Marvel Universe not many charecters from that one that I would buy
i dont knwo the extent of that law, if its truly a law and not an urban myth. I see colorized coins all the time from many different companies. so it it is truly a law, i do wonder what someone has to do to cross it!?!?
It IS against the law if the intent is to defraud. As "Quarter Dollar" is still visible on the obverse, it is obvious that this is not intended to be anything more then a quarter.
Just did a quick look on evilbay and found about a thousand colorized coins and a set of 3 one oz silver Batman tokens $115 LOL
Cities these coins are showing up in based on ebay sales: Medford, Massachusetts Englewood, Colorado San Francisco, CA Thornton, CO Belmont, Massachusetts Good Luck
It is, and here is the best part: they say real silver by the Franklin Mint! So...........if by the Franklin Mint, then how do they say "quarter dollar"?
I think what you have here is an ordinary state quarter with a Silver Surfer sticker on one side. They say they are actual legal tender - the Franklin Mint can't produce legal tender so they have to be ordinary quarters.
There are a couple listed on Ebay from your area. You should ask them how they picked them up. I asked one of the guys from the Boston area and he said he had no idea where he picked it up but noticed it in his change as he was bigging for change for the jukebox. Good Luck
Even though I don't like it from a coin collecting point of view, I must admit there is a certain artistic talent evidenced. Lets see what they do with the hula girl. Maybe a hologram that when you change the direction of the view of the coin she appears to be dancing.
