I came across this nickel and I was hoping someone could tell me if it's a fake or a error coin... it weights 4.95 and is the same exact size as a quarter. Someone please enlighten me as to what I have.
Is it thinner than a normal nickel? If so, given that the weight is correct, I'd say it's probably a real nickel that got flattened.
I normal sized Nickel is thicker than a Quarter so if your mystery Nickel is the same thickness of the Quarter then it is PMD - Post (after it left the mint) Mint Damage. I agree with it's a plain Nickel that was squeezed and flattened somehow.
Drafting was a hobby of mine for 50 years, so I'm used to eye-balling things to see if they lined up correctly. I also hung thousands of paintings for my Mom. It would help if you stacked the coins (1947 - 1959 -1988) top-to-bottom for a visual comparison from the side as well as take a photo of the reverses for the benefit of everyone looking at this thread.
